Home & Design Show

I live for this show every year. There is more meat on display at these shows than at a butcher shop. Though I can’t really tell you much about the actual design displays . . . I’m kidding! The show itself features a plethora of everything you need to make your place a home: furniture, fixtures, design ideas and anything else you can think of. The show is on until Sunday, Oct 25. Vancouver Convention Centre, 1055 Canada Place. Tickets $6–16. Info, exhibitors, times and contests at vancouverhomeanddesignshow.com.

Fusion

A fundraiser for kids and youth with HIV. Help YouthCO raise enough money to send 50 children to Camp Moomba next summer, and do it while overlooking False Creek, enjoying cocktails, nibbling appies and listening to DJs Landon James and Krystal Dos Santos. 6:30–10:30pm. Science World, 1455 Quebec St. Tickets $35 at youthco.org/fusion or $40 at door. More info on their Facebook page.

Thrill The World

Honey, I do this every time I drop my gear in my bedroom window. But these people are going to be dancing to “Thriller” all over the world at the same time. Pay homage to the King of Pop by taking part in a flashmob dancing to Michael Jackson’s Halloween-themed mega hit. Similar events are taking place in cities across Canada. 3pm. Creekside Centre, 1 Athletes Way. Sign up and get all your info at ttwvancouver.ca.

Fall Gala: Propaganda

I am going to need a raise from someone if I keep attending all these great fundraisers! Symone Says provides the entertainment at this important fundraiser for Out in Schools. (Read more about Out in Schools and the fundraiser here on Daily Xtra.) Kids deserve to go to school free from the threat of intolerance — they should get the chance to be visible, vocal and confident. This fundraiser and silent auction brings us one step closer to that reality. 7pm–1am. Chinese Cultural Centre, 50 E Pender St. Tickets 440-4150 at eventbrite.ca. More info here on their Facebook page.

Naked Halloween Party

What kind of costume can I wear if I’m buck naked? I’ve already gone as a tripod, and the year I took Viagra and went as a flag pole didn’t work out so well for me. People got too grabby. Check out the party and my latest costume, as P-CAN brings you a naked Halloween party for gay and bisexual men of all ages and body types to socialize in the nude. 8pm–2am. Club 8×6, 1775 Haro St. $15 members, $20 guests at door. p-can.org

Sunday, Oct 25

The Sweet & Sticky Show

I’m usually more drunk and happy than sweet and sticky when I attend this show. (Though I suspect more fun happens behind the curtain, so someone should sneak me back there soon.) In the meantime, the performances on stage are awesome, the venue is cute, and you can’t beat the price. Kitsilano should be proud of its only drag show. 8pm. Displace Hashery, 3293 W 4th Ave. $10 at door. More info here on their Facebook page.

Caliente Nights: Dia De Los Muertos

I love the way Latin men speak. They sound so sexy that even if they’re telling me my fly is open so please go away, what I hear is “take me home and mount me now.” (Which might explain that restraining order!) Tonight, I don’t care what anyone says. Caliente nights are always bursting with hot, sexy, young Latino men that I just know are looking for a hot, older, daddy bear. Celebrate Dia De Los Muertos with Tamara Catz, Miss Funtasy and guest star Soraya Slim. Prize for best Los Muertos costume. 10pm–3am. The Junction, 1138 Davie St. $5 cover. facebook.com/vancouvercalientenights

AGM-Alypstick

Finally, the East Van drag phenomenon is back! Relive the way Sunday nights used to be, as a special edition of Apocalypstick brings you the Queen of East Van, Isolde N Barron, and all your favourite entertainers — plus an annual general meeting for Zee Zee Theatre. Get a little sparkle with your financial reports and programming plans for the theatre’s upcoming season. 7:30pm. The Cobalt, 917 Main St. $10 cover includes a membership to Zee Zee Theatre. More info here on their Facebook page.

Monday, Oct 26

Queer Prov

If you thought the funniest thing you’ve seen is Ryan Steele bartending, then you clearly haven’t found the sex tape! But a close second is this weekly queer comedy night with Jamie Chrest, Shane Edwards, Jamie Mcniven Smith and Julia Stretch. Plus, you might get to see Ryan bartend in an early Halloween disguise. 8–9:30pm. XYYVR, 1216 Bute St. No cover. More info on their Facebook page.

(Think there’s an upcoming event I should attend? Click here to list your event on dailyxtra.com or send me a note at oitc.vancouver@dailyxtra.com.)

: Man about town scurrying into every bar, restaurant, nook and cranny looking for all the details to post the events you want to see. Drop me a line if you want your GLBT themed event, meeting, social, gathering, play party, circle jerk, listed online or even if you are one short for your orgy. I always aim to please.....unless its your eye...ouch!!!
