New events planned for Ladyfest Ottawa

A rock camp for ladies, workshops and more

Ladyfest Ottawa is back, and an organizer tells Xtra the group is planning a new event and looking for new volunteers.

Zaheen K says plans are underway for a relaunch of the Tarts ‘n’ Crafts craft sale in May, as well as a new venture.

“Through feedback from members of the community and due to the popularity of our annual Rock Camp for Girls, we are hoping to organize our first-ever Rock Camp for Ladies,” she says. “This will be an opportunity for adult women to learn new musical skills while living out their childhood dreams of being in a rock band.”

Ladyfest has been on hiatus for the past several years, save for the weekend-long Rock Camp for Girls in October. Even Tarts ‘n’ Crafts, which used to happen in the weeks before Mother’s Day and Christmas each year, disappeared.

But Zaheen K says stay tuned for a resurgence of activity.

“In the upcoming year, we’re also hoping to organize more skill-sharing workshops and a collaborative event for Support Local Month in November,” she says, referring to a month-long community-wide initiative started by the folks at Apartment613 to support Ottawa-area food producers, artists and businesses.
