Unsex’d

When a theatre company sends me a photo of a sexy, naked, very handsome man for its upcoming play, you can bet I’ll be in the front row. Tonight, if you’re looking for me, I’ll be the one in the puddle of drool. This two-person play follows the exploits of two actors vying for the role of Lady Macbeth, as they’ll do anything to catch the eye, and affection, of the male playwright. Read Daily Xtra’s story here. Play runs tonight until Saturday, Dec 5. 8pm, PAL Studio, 581 Cardero St. Tickets $20 at www.thefranktheatre.com Matinee 2pm, Saturday, Dec 5.

Sox & Jox

I have a confession to make: when I meet someone new, and by “meet” I mean ride them like rubber to road, I keep their jock afterwards. Sure, they look for it, but by then I have hidden it under the mattress or kicked it into the closet. Maybe tonight I’ll find a few more at this underwear and socks party for men. DJ, drinks and men in underwear — seems like heaven. Well-equipped play zones. Dress code is y-fronts, long johns, boxers, jocks and sporty socks. 8pm–1am. Club 8×6, 1775 Haro St. $10 cover includes first drink. www.8×6.ca

Holigays Party

Trust me, I don’t make these names up. This party is for the older LGBT set, 55 years and up. (And yes, I can say “older set” as I am part of the demographic!) Join others 55 and up to welcome the holiday season with warm beverages, toasty treats and karaoke carols. This is a free event but you must pre-register (I guess in case they lose some along the way!) at www.eventbrite.ca or 604-684-8449. 4–7pm. The Junction, 1138 Davie St. http://qmunity.ca/event/holigays15/

Whistler Film Festival

See what happens when you don’t answer my emails, people! This event almost got passed over because they wouldn’t tell me the gay content. Shame on you, but a friend in Whistler sent me the details. This event runs until Sunday, Dec 6, with enough movies to keep you indoors 24 hours a day. Here is the LGBT lowdown: Friday: Carl Bessai’s Rehearsal features a gay British director staging a performance of a Chekov play (9:30pm), and Love in the Sixth has lesbian and bisexual characters (10pm). Saturday: Legend stars Tom Hardy as London’s famous gangster Kray twins, one of whom was openly bisexual (9:30pm), and in He Hated Pigeons, a man mourns the loss of the man he loved by taking a road trip across Chile (9:30pm). Queer Arts Festival Winter Warmer

I have to admit I seem to get invited to a lot of fundraisers — not because I’m popular, but because the organizers seem to think we make a ton of money at Daily Xtra. Ha ha, better stick with popular! It may be winter but before you know it, the Queer Arts Festival will be upon us. Plus the majority of all their hard work is happening now in the preparation stages. Tonight is a fundraiser for the festival, full of gaiety and merriment, nibbles and libations, a silent auction and performances by Cor Flammae and Rachel Iwaasa. 6pm. The Post, 110-750 Hamilton St. Tickets $25 at www.brownpapertickets.com. https://www.facebook.com/events/1704693113085684/

Saturday, Dec 5

Rainbow Refugee AGM

This is an amazing group that supports and advocates for people seeking refugee protection because of persecution based on sexual orientation, HIV status or gender identity. Join them at their annual general meeting and you can become a member or volunteer. 12:30pm. Room 2245, SFU Harbour Centre, 515 West Hastings St. rainbowrefugee.ca

Twisted Christmas

I have had so many twisted Christmases due to my very uptight family. One year, after a last-minute cancellation by my beard, I had to bring the cocktail waitress from the Keg as my pretend date. That went fine until she got caught with my cousin’s hand making it to second base. (Though playing the heartbroken date worked wonders that year for the sympathy card!) This Twisted Christmas, enjoy an evening of laughs and giggles while raising funds for the homeless. Bring winter wear, jackets, sleeping bags and other donations to be delivered on Christmas Eve. Hosted by Imperial Crown Princess Irene Black and the amazing Amanda Luv, with performances by Whoopsie Daisy, Fuca Rose and many more. 8pm. Olympia Pizza & Restaurant, 10257 King George Hwy, Surrey. Cover $5. www.facebook.com/events/1916603381898165/

Fruity & Nutty

This title describes perfectly the two types of people that I seem to attract like flies to a banana peel! Join the Rainbow Concert Band as they once again celebrate the holiday season. Everyone can be fruity and nutty together! Doors 7pm, show 7:30pm. Room 2010, Vancouver Community College Auditorium, 1155 East Broadway St. Tickets $15 advance at brownpapertickets.com or $20 at door. www.rainbowband.ca

26th Annual Diorama Party

Back in the day when I thought it was cool just to have a hanky hanging out of my back pocket, I found myself invited to a private Red Hanky party. I knew I was in trouble when I got there and guys were looking at my gigantic hands and fingers like I was a brisket at an all-you-can eat buffet. Needless to say my hands stayed in my pants and my hanky days were over. These gigantic hands are why I could never create one of the amazing, intricately decorated diorama boxes that are the centrepiece of this long-running community party and fundraiser. Hosted by Barb Snelgrove, this year’s fundraiser will benefit the Canadian Centre for Gender & Sexual Diversity. There will be plenty of dioramas to check out, as well as performers, a DJ and tons of seasonal fun. 6:30–10pm. Show 7pm. Celebrities, 1022 Davie St. Tickets $10 at Little Sister’s, 1238 Davie St or http://diorama26.brownpapertickets.com

Bianca Del Rio: Rolodex of Hate Tour

I really should be on tour with RuPaul’s Drag Race star, Bianca Del Rio. With the two of us together, nobody would be safe from our insult comedy. We could battle it out for Queen of Mean, but I am pretty sure I would be on top; she’s a stick. Tonight will be 90 minutes of non-stop stand-up insult comedy. I pity the fools in the front row because you are going to get burned. 8pm. The Vogue Theatre, 918 Granville St. Tickets $20–80 at www.ticketfly.com
