International Shorts at Vancouver Queer Film Festival

As you may have guessed, I don’t have a long attention span. If I don’t have a drink in my hand, a naked man within five feet of me, or someone fucking in a corner that I can see out of the corner of my eye without gawking, I lose interest. So this night — featuring the Vancouver Queer Film Festival’s curation of the year’s best international shorts — works for me. With titles like Float, Pepper, Future Perfect and my personal favourite, The Glory Hole, just to name a few, you can get a full night of the best in queer short films for just the cost of admission. 7pm. International Village, 88 W Pender St. Tickets $13 at Little Sister’s, 1238 Davie St, and Black Dog Video, 1470 Commercial Dr, or online at queerfilmfestival.ca.

Ottrdsco

A monthly night of disco, drinking, dancing and half-naked men covered in glitter and hotter than any shower boy. How messy it gets depends on how much vodka I drink, and with bartenders looking like Ryan Steele and Dan Bevan, I hit the bar a lot! With host Katy Hairy and DJs GingerBear Todd and Geoff Pye, along with two of the hottest go-go bears in town, Thomas and Adam, this night not only hits but rips all the right buttons right off! 9pm. XYYVR, 1216 Bute St. Cover $5 after 10pm. More info on their Facebook page.

Fetish Unlimited

I may be getting older but some things, better left unsaid here, still get blood pumping to the old organ. Granted testosterone shots and the odd blue pill helps, but Sin City parties are better than anything you can pop to get life back in the old noodle. Whatever fetish you have hidden in the locked closets of your mind can be set free here, with no guilt, just unadulterated fun. One word of warning, which I once failed to heed: the 50-50 Fetish Flogger draw is a bit interactive if you win! Play, drink, dance, socialize and . . . ? Performances by Jane Smoker and Frankie Faux, dance cages, dungeon playroom, suspension and bondage play — who’s with me? 9pm–3am. Hindenburg, 23 W Cordova St. Tickets $13 at ticketzone.com, or $10 before 10pm, $15 after. sincityfetishnight.com

Gay G Spot

If my tongue were long enough to reach your prostate, I would be the richest escort in town. The Health Initiative for Men presents a workshop on everything you want to know about your prostate, starting with an introduction to the anatomy of this important and pleasure-giving gland. Discover new pleasures to enjoy, either alone or with a friendly hand or two. 7–9pm. Tonight the workshop takes place at 40 Begbie St in New Westminster. On Monday, Aug 31 it will be repeated at 1033 Davie St (suite 310) in Vancouver. For more information or to register, email register@checkhimout.ca or call 604-488-1001. checkhimout.ca

Bratpack

I love a good deal, especially when it’s for drinks cheaper than our local queens. Plus this event features a punk drag show with hosts bitchier than myself! Throw in a club that’s amazing and new, and we have a winner. Cover is free if you work in the industry, such as in a restaurant, club, hotel, hair salon, tattoo shop, or even if you promote parties, like moi. Where else can you get outrageous drama, serious bitchfests, wild performances and a DJ as hot as Sollors? 9pm–3am. Odyssey Bar & Nightclub, 686 W Hastings St. Cover is $3 if you are not in the industry. theodyssey.ca

Gay and Bisexual Speed Dating

If I weren’t about to tie the knot in October, this speed-dating event would be for me. Finally a night for the men! No phony Scruff or Grindr profiles, or decades-old pictures to lust over. What you see is what you get, like a sausage smorgasbord. Spend seven minutes with each of the 10–12 single bachelors. Hell, the last date I had shot in four minutes, so seven minutes just to chat about likes and dislikes is like an eternity. If a purse falls out of his mouth in the first minute, start scanning the room for your next Mr Right. After all is said and done, the host will forward any requests to you within 24 hours and then start planning the honeymoon. 7:30–9:30pm. 1181, 1181 Davie St. Tickets $40. For more info and to register go to singleandeligible.com.

Wet & Wild: Bowling Registration

Of course I have bowling stories. I once thought bowling was so much fun that I joined the Sunday and Wednesday night leagues, not realizing that I was committing to eight months of alcohol, two nights a week. After which, I burnt myself out in terms of the actual game, and my ball had an unfortunate accident rolling down a roadway in Chicago and right into the canal where it remains to this day. Tonight is the registration for the mixed gay league promoting fun and fellowship, Wet & Wild Wednesdays. This is a 10-pin league, and games start Wednesday, Sept 9. Beginners are always welcome. Register tonight at 7pm. Rev’s Bowling Centre, 5502 Lougheed Hwy at the Holdom Skytrain station. members.shaw.ca/gaybowling/

: Man about town scurrying into every bar, restaurant, nook and cranny looking for all the details to post the events you want to see. Drop me a line if you want your GLBT themed event, meeting, social, gathering, play party, circle jerk, listed online or even if you are one short for your orgy. I always aim to please.....unless its your eye...ouch!!!
