Radical Rewind

The term “radical rewind” reminds me of the old days when you were a bit high, a bit drunk, home alone watching porn on your VCR, and when it was time for release you’d madly rewind to your go-to scene and play it over and over until you were spent. This, however, is a Vancouver Independent Archives Event about Vancouver history from the perspective of two community organizations, Metro Media (1971–1983) and the gay community cable show Gayblevision (1980–1986). Metro Media excerpts 7pm, Gayblevision excerpts 8pm. VIVO Media Arts Centre, 2625 Kaslo St. Free event. More information here on Facebook.

44th Imperial Crowned Prince & Princess Ball

Personally, I’d would like to throw all the ball pageantry back to the ’90s, when it was more a party event and less talk. (The introductions alone of every out-of-town guest can take an hour, and that’s only the half of it!) Hopefully, tonight will restore my faith in the celebration side of things, as Imperial Crowned Prince Triton, Imperial Crowned Princess Ivana Phoque and Miss Understood (see what I mean!) invite everyone to a ’90s throwback night to celebrate the end of their reign. 8–10:30pm. The Junction, 1138 Davie St. Cover $5 at door going to Dogwood Monarchist Society Fundraising Campaign. More information here on Facebook.

Sex Asylum

If only there were such a place. I would happily retire there and spend my days doing exactly what you are thinking right now. Plur Productions brings you a kinky, fetish, dress-up and play event. DJ Adam Dreaddy will be spinning, and will probably end up in the white padded play room, or on the inspection table with the sex machine attachment. Come dressed as a psycho nurse, a bloodied, crazy sex patient, a sexy nun or whatever gets you going. (Think American Horror Story.) 9pm–3am. Club 8×6, 1775 Haro St. Tickets $25 before midnight, $30 after. Advance tickets $25 at plurproductions.ca

Queers & Beers

Am I the only one who thinks this is a perfect name for a bar in the village? It already describes every night at Pumpjack! Time for a rebranding, maybe? But today is all about craft beer tasting. Check out Vancouver’s microbrew with fellow queer beer lovers. Twenty-four beers will be featured on tap, cider and liquor for those gluten-free types, pool tables, pinball and lots of fun. 5–9pm. The Cobalt, 917 Main St. No cover. More information here on Facebook.

Man Up’s Amateur Hour

If you ever had the desire to see me messy, this may be your chance. First I’ll get my beer fill at Queers and Beers, then I won’t even have to leave the bar for the gender-blending Man Up Amateur Hour. Organizers are issuing an open call for all levels and genders for this queer variety show. To get on the bill email manupdrag@gmail.com and describe your concept. 9pm–1am. The Cobalt, 917 Main St. $5 cover. More information here on Facebook.

Monday, Nov 30

Voices of Hope Fundraiser For World AIDS Day

Picture it: Dec 1, 2012, I had tickets to go to this amazing concert for World AIDS Day. Got all dressed up, got my date, had a great dinner beforehand, went to the concert and found out I was day late. Don’t miss performances by Hunting, Winsome Kind and the Femme City Choir at this annual fundraiser for the Dr Peter AIDS Foundation and others, which takes place on Nov 30. 6:30pm. First Baptist Church, 969 Burrard St. Suggested donation $20 at door. drpeter.org

Queer Prov

By the time Monday night hits, I am usually in need of some inspiration and some witty comments to bring you this column each week, and this is where I pick some of them up. I also drink. Now you know my secrets to success. This is some of the best improv in town, and there’s no cover. 8pm. XYYVR, 1216 Bute St. More information here on Facebook.

Tuesday, Dec 1

Red Ribbon Awards: World AIDS Day

I have a shelf at home that has a red ribbon for almost every year they’ve existed for AIDS. So many ribbons. I keep them on that shelf to remember. Not sure if that is sad or empowering, but it matters to me. Tonight AIDS Vancouver presents red ribbons to recognize the significant contributions of those who contributed to HIV care in our community. 6–9pm. The Junction, 1138 Davie St. Please consider making a cash donation to AIDS Vancouver’s Grocery Program, or donating toys to families who rely on their programs. More information here on Facebook.

Wednesday, Dec 2

Bingo For Life: WESA Christmas Edition

Think of how many prizes you can win tonight at bingo then re-gift for Christmas. Are really going to use that cock-shaped 24-inch pepper mill that Conni Smudge just handed you? Well maybe, but not for pepper. The more you play, the more you could win. Plus there is always a chance you will see Del Stamp’s dick and his Christmas sack as he DJs — it seems to be a tradition. Drag queens, great prizes, cheap drinks and help Friends For Life all at the same time. 8–10:30pm. Celebrities, 1022 Davie St. Suggested donation $10 includes cards. celebritiesnightclub.com
