Rosie O’Donnell may return to The View

I used to skip my first-period class in the 11th grade (okay, I’d skip the whole morning) to sleep in and watch The View. I lived for Rosie O’Donnell versus Elizabeth Hasselbeck almost as much as I lived for Barbara Walters’s Restylane.

Now, seven years after leaving, rumour has it that Rosie may be returning to the morning talk show.

“The network executives really wanted Rosie back,” an insider tells Fox411. “They’re confident she has what it takes to add some controversy and drive the ratings up. It is a smart fit.”

The View table has only one person left sitting at it for their upcoming season. Whoopi Goldberg will be back as moderator, the role Rosie held for the 2006/2007 season. But with Walters’s retirement and it being announced that Sherri Shepherd and Jenny McCarthy are not renewing their contracts, Whoopi doesn’t have much to moderate.

So far it’s nothing but speculation, but even former View co-host Meredith Vieira has hinted that Rosie might be returning. ABC, however, is remaining silent.

“There is a lot of rumour and speculation about who will be joining the show,” the network said, but no decisions have been made, and they are “not ready to make any announcements.”
