The BC Coroners Service is investigating after a man’s body was found Sept 18 in the Red Door bathhouse in the 1200 block of Granville Street.
The Coroners Service says it was called at 11am by bathhouse staff. Staff had first called 911 immediately and provided first aid, but the man could not be resuscitated.
Vancouver police reportedly attended and handed over the investigation to the coroner’s office.
According to The Province newspaper, police described the situation as a “sudden death.”
A spokesperson for the Vancouver Police Department told Xtra the police investigation is now closed but would not provide details. Barb McLintock, of the Coroners Service, says a coroner’s report will be released when it is completed.
“The identity of the person is known, but we aren’t making it public at this time until we are sure all family members who need to know have been notified,” she says. “We don’t make public what post-mortem testing may be involved out of respect for the privacy of the deceased. Suffice it to say we do what needs to be done to ensure we can determine a reasonable cause of death.”
