The to-do list: Queer Film Festival, Fillmore Family Reunion and gay board games!

Vancouver Queer Film Festival

The festival runs from Aug 11 to 21, kicking off Thursday with To Faro at the Granville 7 Cinema and the opening gala at Five Sixty! There are some great films screening this year. (I review two of them in this week’s Xtra.) The best way to bring more exposure to gay cinema is to celebrate it! Check out the festival’s official website here and let the cinematic glamour begin.

The Fillmore Family Reunion

This Saturday, Aug 13, at the UBC farm, there is a mid-summer whoop-up like no other! According to its Facebook page, it will be “a day of music, dancin’, games, fun, frolic and a country BBQ on the farm in the HOT summer heat!” Performances by Sharon McNight, Kim Kuzma, Boomchix, Sons of Granville, DJ Mumbles, Tyrell Witherspoon, Babe Coal, Timberline Dance Society, the Fillmore Family Band (Dave Sikula, Jeremy Holmes, Jesse Cahill and Lonnie Delisle) and many more!

Tickets are $45 and are on sale now. They’re available here or at Little Sister’s!

Gay board games

Indulge your inner nerd at Rhizome Café, 317 Broadway, Aug 12 and 27. I have no idea what it will be like, but if it’s a bunch of ‘mos sitting around playing Candy Land, I am so there. Best part? It’s free like Willy.
