Depictions of queer and trans people by artificial intelligence-based image generators like Midjourney are facing scrutiny, after evidence emerged that the recently published “Cass Review” used AI images of trans youth in its final report on trans healthcare in the U.K.

AI images are increasingly making their way into mainstream media and scientific reports. But these images can reproduce and reinforce stereotypes, while also erasing entire identities. A recent Wired story highlighted how these tools often default to stereotypical depictions of LGBTQ2S+ people.
