VIDEO: Margaret Cho bringing new tour to BC

Xtra chatted with comedian backstage last time she was in Vancouver

Margaret Cho talks to Xtra about her new tour, “Mother,” getting inked, gun control and being mentioned in Christopher Dorner’s manifesto.

The last time Margaret Cho performed in Vancouver, she packed the Centre for Performing Arts as she closed the 2013 Comedy Festival with her show Mother.

The bisexual comedian told the audience that she was trying to have more sex with men but wasn’t entirely sold on anyone eating her pussy, since it was made in Korea in the 1960s and lacked an English online manual.

She also told the crowd that she sort of enjoyed being singled out as beautiful by Christopher Dorner, the rogue ex-Los Angeles police officer who allegedly killed four people before killing himself just days before her show on Feb 12, 2013. But Dorner’s admiration hadn’t weakened her stance on gun laws. “I have no problem murdering somebody,” she said. “It’s just loud.”

Now, she’s on her way back to BC to play two stops on her latest tour, one at the River Rock Casino in Richmond on Nov 1 and another at the University of Victoria on Nov 2. She’ll also be back on Jan 28, 2015, to headline Whistler’s Pride and Ski Festival.

Xtra caught up with Cho backstage in 2013 to ask about her mother, her politics and which TV show she’d most like to star in: Downton Abbey or American Horror Story.
