A new biopic of Nelson Mandela’s life, based on his autobiography Long Walk to Freedom, is set to be released in Canada on Dec 25. The film, Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival this past September to a warm reception. Directed by Justin Chadwick, it features acclaimed British actor Idris Elba in the title role.
“We were very keen to sort of portray Mandela . . . as a man, as a human being, and that included, you know, some parts of his life that may not be as flattering as we might think,” Elba said at a press conference during TIFF.

The film is currently screening in select theatres in the US and will be released in Canada Dec 25.
