You Can Play

In 2010, Brendan Burke, the son of Toronto Maple Leafs’ general manager Brian Burke, died in a car crash. Three months earlier, Burke had come out and had spoken publicly about wanting to bring an end to homophobia in professional sports, most notably hockey, one of his true loves.

To honour his son’s memory, Brian Burke, along with his other son, Patrick, created the You Can Play Project, which aims to get rid of homophobia in sports, and specifically in locker rooms.

Check out this video featuring the elder Burke and Patrick talking about their new project. Kudos to them for this, and kudos to them for keeping Brendan’s spirit alive.
