Man found dead at F212

A man described as being in his mid-to-late 20s was found dead at Fahrenheit 212 (F212) sometime between 5 and 8 am Apr 18, according Lloyd Norquay, manager of the Davie St bathhouse.

Norquay says another man, who was in one of the bathhouse’s rooms with the deceased, allegedly told F212 staff that he “couldn’t wake the other person up.”

Norquay says 9-1-1 was called shortly after 8 am.

“There was a death,” confirms Vancouver Police Department Sgt Laurence Rankin, but says he has “no other information” to disclose at this time.

“We’re there. You can put two and two together, but I can’t say anything right now because the matter is still under investigation.”

Rankin, who is with the VPD’s homicide unit, would only say that the deceased is male but would not reveal the victim’s name, age or the circumstances surrounding the death. He says an autopsy will be performed “at a later date.”

Asked if the incident was being investigated as a homicide, Rankin says while he is with the homicide unit, it would be “completely inappropriate” to suggest anything else at this time. He says a number of people have been interviewed.

Norquay says he finds the incident “a little bit unnerving.”

He says the victim was “a semi-regular” at the bathhouse.

Norquay who has worked at F212 for 10 years — three as manager — says this is the first time he can remember anyone dying on the premises.
