During a signing of her book Diary of a Mad Diva at Barnes & Noble in New York City, Joan Rivers officiated the impromptu gay wedding of her fans Jed Ryan and Joe Aiello.
The couple tells Entertainment Tonight that they got the idea of having Joan officiate after reading in her book that she’s an ordained minister.
“I jokingly asked [Jed], ‘Do you think it’s true? Maybe she’ll marry us.’ And he goes, ‘Ask her.’ So I did,” says Aiello. “I don’t think he really thought I would, and neither one of us thought she’d say yes!”
The next day, a paparazzo mentioned the ceremony to Joan as he filmed her on the street, then asked her if she thought we would see a gay American president any time soon.
In true Rivers fashion, the mad diva replied, “We already have that with Obama, so let’s just calm down.” She then added,“You know Michelle is a tranny. . . a transgender. We all know. It’s okay.”
