Jamaican police stepped in to protect gay men from angry crowds in two different cities on Aug 1,Jamaica’s CVM TV reports.
In Kingston, two men were found in “a compromising position” inside a police patrol car. The station did not confirm whether the two men are police officers. A crowd descended on the area, and police used pepper spray and fired warning shots before allowing the patrol car to leave the area.
In St Catherine, an angry crowd descended on two men whom they accused of committing “illegal activities” in a bathroom. Police escorted the two men away, protecting them from the crowd.
Homosexual activity is punishable in Jamaica with up to 10 years in prison.
