Xtra’s Andrea Houston on the radio

BY ROB SALERNO – Xtra’s own Andrea Houston is off on vacation this week, but proving that there’s no rest for the wicked, she spent a chunk of yesterday on the radio in Quinte, Ontario, on CJBQ 800.

Andrea was a guest of honour on the Lorne Brooker Show, which is being guest hosted by Bill Glisky. She spoke about anti-bullying week, queer and trans issues, and what it means to be an advocacy journalist.

Appearing in mainstream and non-urban outlets is a really important way for queer people to support each other outside of our major centres. Go, Andrea! (But take a break every once in a while, too!)

You can listen to her whole guest appearance (it runs one hour) here.

Rob Salerno is a playwright and journalist whose writing has appeared in such publications as Vice, Advocate, NOW and OutTraveler.
