Xavier Dolan, Jean-Luc Godard tie for Jury Prize at Cannes

Canadian director Xavier Dolan was awarded the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival for his fifth film, Mommy.

The 25-year-old Dolan shares the award, the third most prestigious at the festival, behind the Grand Prix and Palme d’Or, with 83-year-old Jean-Luc Godard, who was honoured for his film Goodbye to Language.

In an interview with Euronews, Dolan says, “The award was interesting to connect two filmmakers, one at his peak, and the other at the dawn of his career.

“We made the film like any artist who paints to express himself and hopes his work can be loved and understood,” Dolan continues. “As filmmakers we are doing the same thing, we make movies to be understood, to love people, and for that love, ideally, to be reciprocated.
