For queers, Christmas time can be a bit of a bummer. With all that focus on the traditional family unit, some of us can be forgiven for feeling a bit marginalized.
But the Montreal-based performance troupe Glam Gam Productions is working to carefully place the Yule log up various orifices with their tribute to holiday raunch, Tits the Season. This Christmas-themed burlesque show will feature all manner of naughtiness on stage, allowing bis, lesbians, trans, fags, queers, straights and elves of all colours to explore a new live-action dimension of the season.
Xtra.ca caught up with the burlesque Christmas collective that is Glam Gam Productions: Michael J McCarthy, Sarah Murphy and Julie Paquet. They gave us an exclusive sneak preview of the slutty fundraiser, proceeds of which will be donated to AIDS Community Care Montreal (ACCM).
Xtra: Why a burlesque Christmas?
Glam Gam Productions: We called it “Tits the Season” to be naughty. Traditionally those who have been naughty have been excluded from holiday celebrations, and we all have that hot-headed family member who always manages to cause trouble! As a good friend once told us, “egos can be rather fragile during the holidays.” Our show is a chance for all those naughty people out there to kick their egos to the curb and let their holy horniness shine. This Christmas, instead of indulging in the usual fruitcake, turkey and eggnog, we figured why not indulge our fantasies with a little lace, leather and holiday taboo? Let loose! What better way to do so than an outrageous burlesque show at the historical Café Cleopatra?
Xtra: So how queer is this show?
GGP: The beauty of the term queer lies within the fluidity of its definition. Burlesque is a very queer art form because it does not cater only to the gaze of the straight male viewer. So yes, the show is very queer. This being said, it is by no means a circle jerk amongst a bunch of fags and their hags! The show is in fact a diverse indulgence that will reach many audiences: lesbian, trans, bisexual, queer, gay or straight — you’ll have a tingle in your panties by the time we’re through with you.
Xtra: What is it about Christmas that makes people want to be randy and/or raunchy? Is it just that the holiday can be so uptight that we want to rebel?
GGP: Unfortunately, Christmas can be a very repressive holiday. Us perverts here at Glam Gam Productions, however, realize that it is in fact the most lustful time of the year. Santa may cum only once a year but that’s because he’s been saving it up for the Christmas bukkake! Mary may claim that she was a virgin, but we all know that’s because she didn’t know which wise man was the father. Maybe people get randy because they are jealous of the turkey and wish they were the ones getting stuffed! Who doesn’t love a good ol’ Christmas Eve Spit Roast? To hell with the chestnuts!
Xtra: What are the most exciting parts of this show?
GGP: Most importantly, we are proud to be helping AIDS Community Care Montreal (ACCM), with funds raised through interactive activities with the audience, and the St James Centre, with non-perishable food items brought by people who want to save two bucks off cover. This show is going to be a roller coaster ride inside everyone’s pants from start to finish. From rim-jobbing reindeer to the biggest Christmas Yule log you have ever seen, you just may find yourself a little dumbfounded. Let’s just say by the scandalous finale the audience will be giving us a “standing ovation.” Particularly the males! As if all that wasn’t enough to satisfy the greediest wish list in Whoville, a late-night dance party with DJ Beehive and DJ Like the Wolf will follow each night’s performances. Jolly ol’ St Nick himself may even stop by for a little Christmas crowd surfing.
Tits the Season on Fri, Dec 11 and Sat, Dec 12 at Montreal’s historic strip joint and trans club Café Cleopatra, 1230 St Laurent. Doors open 9pm. $10, $8 if you bring a non-perishable item that will be donated to the St James Centre.
