Qmunity Survey: How Are We Building Qmunity?

Every once in a while, I like to show that even an old dog like me has a heart. Qmunity is a group that has served BC’s LGBT communities for 36 years. They have been awarded a $10million grant for a new multipurpose building, and they need your input. Please help by sharing your opinions about Qmunity. Fill in a quick, 15 minute survey at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/?sm=dUmPbASZeu3KKXqazuMVcWWXnJmhva7Oo0dIYB%2fM59A%3d

Jocks & Harness

Not all guys look good in gear, especially me – but just the words “jocks and harness” can get most of us developing a semi. Put the gear on even the plainest of guys, and suddenly their inhibitions disappear and they turn into fuck machines that want to split open every guy they see. Find out for yourself at this month’s theme night. Bring your jockstrap and grab your harness, but all leather and kink gear is welcome (or wear nothing at all) in a friendly, sex-positive, safe and social play space. 8pm–12am. Club 8×6, 1775 Haro St. Entrance $5 members, $10 non-members. www.8×6.ca.

Friday, Sept 4

Honeypot’s Poundcake

I love this monthly night; it’s full of some of the hottest cubs and bears around town. Dip me in honey, or even just spread a few jars on my good bits, and throw me into the crowd. How can you go wrong with hot men, sexy go-go bears and hunky DJ Mumbles? Plus, DJ Byron Bonsall from San Francisco will be spinning. His philosophy is to “leave them with a smile on their face and maybe a little sweaty and I have done my job,” which works for me on the dancefloor or in the closest bath house. 8pm. XYYVR, 1216 Bute St. Cover $5 after 10pm, $10 after 11pm. www.facebook.com/events/909496929128627

Metro Vancouver Kink: Vancouver Dungeon

I love this time of the year. Gone are all the preppie beach parties, the A&F fashionistas that drop by the neighborhood gay bar to be seen, the throngs of straight women looking for that summer gay BFF – now is the time for men: the burly guys, the leather guys, the dungeon parties, the kink demonstrations (none of this finger-banging-by-the-darkly-lit-pool-table nonsense). Fall is the time for all-out fucking whenever the mood hits. Tonight, you get one of the first and best dungeon parties of the season, a night full of fun, socializing and hot scenes. MVK prides itself on being a welcoming place for people of all experience levels, from those who are brand new to those who have decades of experience. Come experience what you have been missing. 8pm–1am. Korean Community Centre, 1320 E Hastings St. Entrance $20 with tickets at Little Sister’s, 1238 Davie St; Sweet Adult Boutique, 1402 W Broadway and at door.

Icing Sugar

Sugar makes everything taste delicious. Find out for yourself at this play party with a sweet and sensual twist. An erotic feast for the senses laid out for your pleasure: fill your darkest desires or simply satisfy your sweet tooth. From feathers to leather, sugar to Steele (hostess Velvet Steele, that is) – there’s something for every palate. Play the night away with all the beautiful boys and girls, complete with a few naughty presentations on lubes, lotions and potions, and some of your favourite sex toys. Take a nibble if you dare; bet you can’t eat just one. 9pm–2am. Club 8×6, 1775 Haro St. Cover $20.

Tomboy

This weekend seems all about the ladies and the drag kings – it’s about time they had their own weekend. Here is one hot and sweaty queer party, featuring burlesque, drag kings, contests and more. Brought to you by Kasey Riot and guests playing the best in house, electro, throwbacks and booty-dropping basslines. Their mission is to support local performers and artists, while also providing more options for the queer community to go out, be social and meet new friends.9pm-2am. The Astoria, 769 E Hastings St. $10 cover.

Hershe Bar

This is definitely where the girls are. When I was bartending these events years ago, I made the mistake of thinking I could drink these girls under the table. I got my ass served to me, but they still had a blast. DJ Rocket returns to her favourite Canadian dancefloor with a stack full of amazing new music. Tag teaming with Miss M, this is going to be one epic DJ team spinning a mix of house, EDM and hip-hop. Voted ”Best Lesbian Parties” by you. Check out what all the talk is about. 10pm–2am. Red Room Ultra Bar, 398 Richards St. Tickets, $15.75, at Little Sister’s, 1238 Davie St or www.flygirlproductions.com Limited tickets at door.

United

Big Roger has the best dance parties – from what I can remember. Yes, I had so much fun that the memories are now all cloudy . . . but at this age, it’s hard to stay up for a late night dance fest without my gallon drum of Red Bull and whatever else you might have to keep me going. This party is Sunday late night – it starts at 1am, so be warned, you will see the sun rise because DJ Misha Skye is in the house, and you will not want to leave until the last beat has ripped through your loins. 1–7am. Encore Dance Club, 1058 Granville St. Tickets $30 advance at Little Sister’s, 1238 Davie St; Top Drawers, 909 Davie St and http://bigrogerevents.com Also $40 at door.

Monday, Sept 7

Queer Improv

If you are looking for something even funnier than Ryan Steele’s latest sex tape, then look no further. The Bobbers’ unique Queer Comedy Improv brings laughter to festivals, events and tonight’s weekly show. It also lasts longer than Ryan Steele did. 8–9:45pm. 1181, 1181 Davie St. No cover. The Bobbers-Queer Comedy Improv on Facebook

Tuesday, Sept 8

XY Factor Talent Show

I thought, at first blush, that this was a KY talent show, and I was already picturing Del Stamp dipping into his tub of jelly and stroking his talent from the DJ booth, trying to make it rain on the dancefloor. But this is something totally different. XYYVR and TFD are having their own version of X Factor, and want you to showcase your talent. Ventriloquists, dancers, singers, magicians, scary clowns – whatever you can do, show them. You could win $1,000 in the finale. Deadline for entries is Friday, Sept 11, with competition starting Thursday, Sept 17. Email thexyfactor@xyyvr.com to enter. XYYVR, 1216 Bute St.
