Harvest Haus
Boys in leather shorts and beer — it’s a miracle I wasn’t arrested at last year’s Oktoberfest! I vaguely remember the event: the beer (lots of it), and some hands, apparently mine, sliding up a few servers’ lederhosen-covered hairy legs. And yes, I definitely remember the bratwurst . . . Thank god the servers were adventurous! For the next two weeks, Harvest Haus will once again feature Bavarian oompah bands, imported beers, and all the bratwurst you can handle. It’s like a four-hour gay booze cruise without the boat. Runs until Sunday, Oct 11. Afternoons 12:30–4:30pm, evenings 6-10pm. The Junk Yard
I’ve had my junk called a lot of things, but never a treasure. But tonight one man’s junk is truly another man’s treasure. Cruise the Junk Yard, part of the Men On Thursday program in this sex-positive social playspace where you can play freely. No dress code, so feel free to let the family jewels swing free. Boobies & Wieners
Most straight guys I know are going to this show for the boobies, but I am going to check out the same friends’ wieners after they see the boobies! No matter which way you lean, this is a great exhibit of immature and explicit nude art. For its third year the exhibit will feature submissions from Ben Morgan, Vince Hemingson, Naomi Chi and many more. Show runs until Saturday, Oct 24. Opening reception is tonight, 7–11pm. Van-Pah
I have so much fun at this afternoon event! Who wouldn’t? Most of the time there is a cute pup with a hot, firm ass humping my leg or sniffing my crotch. (Before you start wondering if I’m into bestiality, you should know these pups are the two-legged kind.) Every month the Vancouver Pups get together with their handlers for an afternoon of puppy play. You will find them romping around all over the bar, playing with toys and squeezing in the occasional crotch or ass sniff and, if you’re lucky, a vigorous leg humping. Come meet the pups. 2–4pm. ONYX
This night really fires my fantasy life, which occasionally needs a good boost. First, you have Vancouver’s biggest DJ (if you know what I mean) Nick Bertossi, plus go-go boys advertised as the kind not usually seen on Davie Street. I’m hoping that means they’re big, buff, hairy and stiff. Throw in a few spectacular drag performances and everyone will be happy. Gay Vancouver Pageant
Everyone loves a good pageant! No, really, I do! If being in heels didn’t make me stand over seven feet tall, I would have thrown on the war paint, tucked, tucked and tucked some more, slipped into a gown and strutted down the aisle. I even would have braved the threat of being decapitated by a ceiling fan! And I would have looked damn good too. Oh well. You won’t see me up there tonight, but you will get the chance to celebrate some of the Mr, Ms, and Miss Gay Vancouver title holders who have helped shape the court over the past 36 years, as they honour some of their milestone anniversaries. Celebrity Dim Sum
I have eaten my way through this event for years. Hosts Fred Lee and Sophie Liu will once again entertain you as you enjoy a delectable seven-course brunch. (Unless you’re at my table, in which case it’s five courses for you and nine for me!) All the food is created in the Four Seasons’ own Chinese kitchen to raise funds for AIDS Vancouver. 11am–1pm. LGBT Youth Mentorship
Qmunity is partway through its series of 12 presentations and casual chats with LGBT professionals to mentor and inspire youth ages 14–25. The series runs Wednesdays and Fridays until Friday, Feb 12.
