Mother’s Disappointed

In case you hadn’t noticed, Bratpack is on hiatus until January. If you’ve been sitting there waiting for them every Thursday night, I’m sorry. But Alma B Itches has rounded up a couple of the pack, because they just can’t stay off the stage for even a night. I’m not sure about the theme yet, but then neither are they. This is a comedic hot mess waiting to happen so grab your drink, sit back and wait for it.

Visual Art Forum: Working Artists

Not that I’m stalking Matt Troy, but I always know where he’s going to be. Come on, have you seen that butt? Who could blame me. Tonight said butt will be sitting on stage at this year’s first Working Artists panel. Working Artists is a semi-annual series of lectures and workshops for students and emerging artists. In this session, panellists from a wide variety of artistic disciplines share how they first emerged into their field, with a focus on public engagement and supporting community. The panel presentation will be followed by a moderated Q&A and breakout sessions.

5–7:30pm. Visual Art Forums at ECUAD. 520 E 1st Ave. Free. facebook.com/events/123129878405894/

Hogwarts Yule Ball

I may be a bit old for this party, but what a theme it could be for a night at Pumpjack. Long Harry Potter robes and a big, thick magic wand and I’m all set to cast some spells. Tonight is for the younger set, 14 to 25 to be exact, so come wearing your house colours, in casual muggle clothes, or in a ball gown and dress robes, as Qmunity brings you its first Winter Ball. This event is for queer, trans and allied youth and is an alcohol- and drug-free space.

8pm–12am. Heritage Hall, 3102 Main St. Entrance is by donation but no one turned away for lack of funds. facebook.com/events/907092459447118/

Jane Stanton Live

If you have never experienced the comedy of Jane Stanton, take this opportunity to hear a one-show-only comedy album recording. I’ve also heard there will be some surprise guests — my guess is Darcy Michael as that girl gets into everything and is just as hilarious.

10pm. Yuk Yuk’s, 2837 Cambie St. Tickets $14.29 at the door or facebook.com/events/1802411703120568/

Queen Please

Believe it or not, Joan-E has a case of the monthlies, which in her case means decadent drag, salty stories, a few dozen cocktails and as many groupie boys to eat. There are always a few surprise guests, and DJ Drew will fill in the rest.

9:30pm. The Junction. 1138 Davie St. Cover $5 at the door. junctionpub.com

Queens Care 10th Anniversary

This would be a good name for the queens’ retirement home — some of those dolls are getting up there and may need a bit of help. Who wants to sponge-bathe Conni Smudge or spoon-feed Carlotta Gurl? This annual fundraising event, in loving memory of legendary female impersonator Diana Rose and nightlife impresario DJ Jules, has become a not-to-be-missed Vancouver tradition. Expect an evening of glamour, impersonation and comedy celebrating our city’s premiere drag entertainers, co-hosted by Joan-E and Carlotta Gurl.

6–9:30pm. Celebrities, 1022 Davie St. Tickets $20 at Eventbrite. Info and entertainers at facebook.com/events/1825750634382327.

VML Social

The weather is getting chilly, so now this is the time to break out the leather wardrobe and join Vancouver Men in Leather at their monthly social. Catch up with old brothers, meet new ones and bring some experienced or curious fetish-friendly friends; fresh meat is always welcome. This month the theme is electricity, with demos from Vancouver Men in Leather members. Interested in being a volunteer for future demos? Just let them know.

8–11pm. Pumpjack Pub, 1167 Davie St. Cover $5 after 9pm. vancouvermeninleather.ca

MVK Dungeon Party

Are you kinky, or just think you are and have never done anything about it? If you’re looking to expand your knowledge or just get down and dirty, Metro Vancouver Kink is there to guide you. They are a community-based organization that holds play, social and educational events for kinky and kink-curious people. Jane & The Generations

Here’s a novel concept, hosted by Jane Smoker, where you get to know two very different queens each month. This month features Rogue and the ever-dynamic Myria LeNoir; do we really think Rogue is going to get a chance to say anything? Fight for it, girl! Enjoy an evening of performances, audience participation segments and a whole lot of spilled T.

10pm. XYYVR, 1216 Bute St. $5 cover. facebook.com/events/1809231295817407/

Backdoor with JD Samson

Matt Troy never disappoints us; he may look like he’s quietly cruising the room but that man is thinking non-stop of out-of-the-box events for you. Tonight is part of a specially curated series to bring visionary international queer artists to Vancouver. Previous artists include the likes of Honey Soundsystem (SF), Horse Meat Disco (UK), Dickey Doo (Berlin) and this time, from New York City, musician, activist and performance artist JD Samson.

11pm–5am. Vancouver Art & Leisure, 494 Railway St. Tickets $15 at leisure.events/backdoor-presents-jd-samson. Info at facebook.com/events/1634189023314742/.

Absolutly Dragulous

If you see only one drag show this year, then this is it. Carlotta Gurl joins Justine Tyme and the amazing Willie Taylor for what is guaranteed to be your best pick yet. Plus, I’m sure that at some point that bodacious booty of Willie Taylor is going to wipe Carlotta right off the stage. I mean next to Willie, she looks like a bleached toothpick.

9pm. The Junction, 1138 Davie St. Cover $5 at the door. junctionpub.com

Host Jaylene Tyme is a former Empress of Vancouver and a master of illusion, re-creating, with old-school glamour, Dolly Parton, Mariah Carey, Tina Turner and many more. Joining Jaylene this month are Justine Tyme and Jane Smoker, along with DJ Dom Top.

QueerProv Musical Show

This night could go really well or dive faster than Peach Cobblah at the baths. It all depends on the voices as QueerProv gets musical. Singing!? Dancing!? Snapping?! Jazz hands?! They’re talking about musicals! And what goes better together than musical theatre and queers? It’s like we were all born for it. The show will feature improv, live music and a special headliner band that you can only see if you attend.

10pm. XYYVR, 1216 Bute St. What have you got to lose: no cover. facebook.com/events/141461493154441/

Launch offers inclusive and accessible space for new and seasoned writers, poets, dancers, performers and everyone in between. Drag Club

Couldn’t you just imagine Drag Club as a motorcycle club: Hell’s Angels in heels? Hosted by Karmella Barr and Dust, Drag Club offers you epic drag battles of all varieties.
