Radical Rewind
The term “radical rewind” reminds me of the old days when you were a bit high, a bit drunk, home alone watching porn on your VCR, and when it was time for release you’d madly rewind to your go-to scene and play it over and over until you were spent. This, however, is a Vancouver Independent Archives Event about Vancouver history from the perspective of two community organizations, Metro Media (1971–1983) and the gay community cable show Gayblevision (1980–1986). 44th Imperial Crowned Prince & Princess Ball
Personally, I’d would like to throw all the ball pageantry back to the ’90s, when it was more a party event and less talk. (The introductions alone of every out-of-town guest can take an hour, and that’s only the half of it!) Hopefully, tonight will restore my faith in the celebration side of things, as Imperial Crowned Prince Triton, Imperial Crowned Princess Ivana Phoque and Miss Understood (see what I mean!) invite everyone to a ’90s throwback night to celebrate the end of their reign. 8–10:30pm. Am I the only one who thinks this is a perfect name for a bar in the village? It already describes every night at Pumpjack! Time for a rebranding, maybe? But today is all about craft beer tasting. Check out Vancouver’s microbrew with fellow queer beer lovers. Twenty-four beers will be featured on tap, cider and liquor for those gluten-free types, pool tables, pinball and lots of fun. 5–9pm. Voices of Hope Fundraiser For World AIDS Day
Picture it: Dec 1, 2012, I had tickets to go to this amazing concert for World AIDS Day. Got all dressed up, got my date, had a great dinner beforehand, went to the concert and found out I was day late. Don’t miss performances by Hunting, Winsome Kind and the Femme City Choir at this annual fundraiser for the Dr Peter AIDS Foundation and others, which takes place on Nov 30. 6:30pm. Red Ribbon Awards: World AIDS Day
I have a shelf at home that has a red ribbon for almost every year they’ve existed for AIDS. So many ribbons. I keep them on that shelf to remember. Not sure if that is sad or empowering, but it matters to me. Tonight AIDS Vancouver presents red ribbons to recognize the significant contributions of those who contributed to HIV care in our community. 6–9pm.
