Rainbow Karaoke

Story Story Lie

This is one of the most inventive nights around, an interactive laughter-filled show with one simple premise: Darcy Michael, Shirley Gnomes and others share intimate, hilarious and often embarrassing stories that seem too strange to be true. The catch? Someone’s lying. The audience takes part in an interrogation to reveal who it is. The first audience member to correctly guess the liar wins the grand prize, as well as the respect and admiration of their peers.

Most drag nights can be scary enough: have you ever seen Conni Smudge in drag doing the morning-after walk of shame or Robyn Graves hung over? Wayne Manor

If I had an Alfred costume I would go to this party. Imagine a century-old Vancouver mansion, complete with a sinister history, done up like a DC comic icon’s lair. This is billed as a fully immersive experience, in which audience members arrive at the Gotham City police masquerade ball, and explore stately Wayne Manor where every alcove, corner and corridor has been transformed and clues await. After the conclusion, a night of dancing in the ballroom.

Though you can probably watch this film anytime on Netflix, nothing quite compares to seeing it over Halloween at the theatre. Out On Screen Annual Gala

Kick off your Halloween weekend with a fabulous cocktail party, costumes and an art auction in support of Out in Schools and the Vancouver Queer Film Festival. Their 15th annual fall gala will be hosted by Sienna Blaze and Carl Meadows, and joined by this year’s Mr/Ms Cobalt winner Karmella Barr, runner-up Maiden China, and 2015 Mr/Ms Cobalt Rose Butch. Proceeds help the Out in Schools team travel around the province bringing LGBT films and discussions to schools.

Parade Of Lost Souls: Altar Ego

This parade and festival is for all the lost souls of the world, a ceremony of reflection and renewal for all. Wear a costume, bring an instrument, make a dance. Women’s Halloween Dance

Sometimes I meet an event organizer with such presence and energy that I can’t list the event without thinking of them. For me that person is the late Susan Yeager, who originally coined the phrase Duelling DJs for her dances.
