Choice events in the city this week

Art

The Language of Flowers

What do flowers say to you? Well, if you can hear flowers talking, then maybe you should take care of a few things before attending an art exhibit. This group show of flower-related works includes pieces by Robert Flack, Dennis Day, Andrew Harwood and Jane Buyers.

Opens Friday, Sept 11, 7pm; Runs until Saturday, Oct 10. Paul Petro Contemporary Art, 980 Queen St W. paulpetro.com

Clubbin’

Wet Banana

What better way to kick off TIFF than by ogling a bunch of naked guys swinging their asses around a pole? Billed as “a dirty little dance party,” this event for the filthy-minded includes a different stripper every half-hour and DJs Kris Steeves and Phil V making rude noises.

Thursday, Sept 10, 10:30pm. Remington’s, 379 Yonge St. remingtons.com

Tramp

Calling all dykes, rug munchers, hussies, butches, sluts, hags, bisexuals — you get the point: it’s a west end dance party for girls. This event for all female-identified hussies, riot grrrls, and the like, includes DJs Linguist and Fawn Big Canoe providing music you can finger bang to.

Friday, Sept 11, 10pm. The Steady, 1051 Bloor St W. thesteadycafe.com

Trade: Wigs and Heels

Host Scarlett Bobo invites all the lipstick-wearing skanks-at-heart to “let [their] inner queen slut it out for a night.” Girly go-go boys Ricky and Zak shake their bits and DJ Scooter McCreight spins. No cover for those who show up at the door in wig and heels.

Saturday, Sept 12, 10pm. The Black Eagle, 457 Church St. facebook.com/getsometrade

Leisure

Drag Me to the Movies

In partnership with the AIDS Committee of Toronto, The Carlton Cinema invites folks to “shine up [those] boots and get into the AIDS Walk spirit with a double feature.” Drag enthusiasts enjoy a screening of Kinky Boots and The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.

Thursday, Sept 10, 7pm. Carlton Cinema, 20 Carlton St. rainbowcinemas.ca/A/Carlton

The Fraternity: Return to Church Street

A NASA probe visited a dwarf planet. Ireland voted to legalize same-sex marriage. Some guy peed in a cup. In short, it’s been an eventful summer. Folks share their summer stories at a dinner hosted by a social group for men. To guarantee your seat, register by Friday, Sept 11.

Monday, Sept 14, 6pm. Cafe California, 538 Church St. thefraternity.org
