International LGBT conference to take place in Mexico City

ILGA brings together activists to discuss worldwide issues

The International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association (ILGA), one of the largest groups that campaigns for LGBT rights globally, is issuing a last call for activists to take part in their annual world conference.

According to its website, the organization aims to “work for the equality of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and intersex people and their liberation from all forms of discrimination. We seek to achieve this aim through the world-wide cooperation and mutual support of our members.”

Taking place in Mexico City from Oct 27 to 31, the 27th world conference will be a place where activists and figures from around the globe can come together and discuss pressing issues facing the global community. Dubbed “Decolonizing our bodies,” the conference takes Tlazoltéotl — a Mexican indigenous goddess representing lust, sin, filth and transformation — as a symbol of inspiration and empowerment for conference-goers.

Attendees will have the opportunity to speak with more than 450 representatives of other organizations from around the world, along with policymakers, academics and UN representatives.

The cutoff date to apply for the conference is Sept 15.
