Attending a dance party accessorized with fun-fur pants and a pacifier is outdated. But Ottawa’s electronic music scene is still rolling hard. Zaphod’s hosts Electronic Mondays each week, and on Monday, March 11 the Market institution will celebrate its resident DJ’s birthday with special guests Dick Party.
Birthday boy Ryan King, also known as Lowpass, keeps each night eclectic, with everything from trap beats and dubstep to modern tunes and classics “going all the way back to disco and Chicago house,” he says. “It’s all on the menu.”
He adds that Zaphod’s features one of the best sound systems in the city.
As any Ottawan knows, our nightlife scene will never rival those found in Montreal and Toronto. But King says the current state of our city’s electronic scene is exemplary.
“There are enough promoters and venues that pretty much every cool DJ and producer going comes [to Ottawa]. In the next month, we’ve got Dillon Francis, Flosstradamus, Kill the Noise with Brillz and Style of Eye,” he says. “Plus, Escapade has evolved into a pretty darn good, big festival. As long as you can find a way to get out on weeknights, it is a great place to be into dance music.”
