The gay is alive at the Today show, which has been dealing with a thunderstorm of controversy after Ann Curry’s unceremonious departure last year, followed by a popularity decline for Matt Lauer because of his alleged involvement in the firing, and a ratings drop that saw Today removed from the #1 morning spot, which it held for 16 years, by competitor Good Morning America.
But can the gays save the struggling talk show?
This morning anchor Jenna Wolfe came out, announcing that she is pregnant with a Today show staffer, Stephanie Gosk. “I don’t want to bring my daughter into a world where I’m not comfortable telling everyone who I am and who her mother is,” Wolfe said.
There are reports that NBC execs are wooing Anderson Cooper to replace Lauer by the end of the year. But he might be otherwise engaged; there are rumours that Cooper, whose daytime talk show Anderson was cancelled after two seasons, is the frontrunner to replace Alex Trebek when the Jeopardy host retires.
