Native Sons
Vancouver has its own silver fox about town. No, it’s not Rupert Graves (Google him!) but our own impressive renowned artist, whom you may see walking briskly around the West End looking for inspiration. Apparently, I didn’t inspire anything, but Jock McDonald has. Artist John Ferrie has teamed up with photographer Jock McDonald to paint McDonald’s photos for Native Sons. Gala opening is tonight with both artists in attendance and there will be a co-interview at 7pm.

Noam Gagnon
I got talked into going to an evening of dance (mainly because men in tights seem to excite me) and I ended up sitting through a ballet. Not my thing, but I stuck it out because some of those packages can be mighty impressive. So imagine my surprise when my friend told me that some dancers stick a slice of bread in front of their junk to keep visible penis line out of sight. I was not impressed, though I do now eat sandwiches in a whole new light. Tonight choreographer and performer Noam Gagnon brings you his new work, which explores how our bodies and sense of calm can morph and evolve through a blending of dance, music, test, film and design.

Occasion 4 The Occult
I once went to a costume party in black pants and a black shirt and under my pants I wore a strap-on harness and out my zipper stuck the biggest dildo I could find that fit in the harness. What was I? A horny devil, of course. I didn’t win a prize, but the dildo was the hit of the party. I may break out that outfit for this “queer as fuck masquerade party” from the depths of the underworld. Union: LGBT + Wedding Show
Sure, now that I’m married and our first anniversary was Thursday, now Vancouver is hosting first a big LGBT + Wedding Show! (Although I’m sure nothing could top our awesome pre-wedding party at Pumpjack that I don’t really remember leaving.) But if you’re planning to get married soon — or if you want to save time and plan your whole wedding now and find the groom later — this is the place to be this Saturday. From food to photography and everything in between, check out the displays and talk to some experts to guide you through the steps. 14th Annual Heart & Soul
Did you know I could play the piano? There won’t be any recital in my future, though, since all I can play is “Heart and Soul,” although I could just play it over and over again for this event. (Call me, I’m affordable!) This is the 14th annual dinner and dance fundraiser for the Heart of Richmond AIDS Society. Featuring food, music, a silent auction and a live auction, as well as one of the hardest working entertainers in town, Conni Smudge, and Tracey Bell to perform for you.

Underwear Party
Next weekend is the night for costumes, but tonight less is more. Get out the bleach and rid your undies of those skid marks — or maybe not, this is Pumpjack after all. One of the best underwear parties in town, especially given the sexy bartenders and hunky DJ. Pop Up Party
This sounds like a night at 8×6, where whenever something pops up it’s a party. But this is the House of Barnes’ Pop Up Shop/Party, where every gay in town usually goes for drag supplies, and this close to Halloween it will be hopping. Shoes, dresses, wigs, weaves, bling, bags and costumes all for the taking, and economical as well. Warning: there may be boxed wine and Pabst involved. For you gay men, Pabst is a beer, not something that happens at a gynecologist.

Gen-Out
If you are an LGBTQ youth between the ages of 13 to 18 and you’re questioning your sexuality, you are not alone. Frankenstein: 1945
Frankenstein scared the hell out of me as a child. Throw a few Nazis in with him and I’ll be having my own Mein Kampf dealing with nightmares. Set in post-war Berlin, Frankenstein has left the Nazis trying to make peace with himself for all the horrors he witnessed and tries to develop a way to bring back the dead. You can guess what happens in this stage-noir thriller that also works in some historical lesbianism.

Life Drawing
Tired of practising your artistic skills on your blow-up doll? Save the doll for other acts and start practising on real live bodies. Tonight Mpowerment will be checking out that one hottie you all know: yourself! MVK Presents: Kink Event Etiquette
Here’s a class that a lot of people don’t know they need: the etiquette of kink. When is the last time you were in a BDSM position and out of nowhere some newbie sticks their tongue in your ass? There goes the concentration. Tonight’s workshop will be about how to present yourself and how to act in different kinds of BDSM events, and when not to stick a tongue or digit where it is not wanted. Learn basic courtesies, rules, and common dos and don’ts.
