Rainbow Soup Social
My family were never the best of cooks. To make soup from scratch in my mom’s house was to use a non-electric “turn the old lever” rusty opener on a can of Campbell’s best. Now you can learn to make soup the old-fashioned way and do it for a great cause. Every week this group gets together to make soup for queer people and their allies. 5:30-7pm. Gordon Neighbourhood House, 1019 Broughton St. For more information click here or contact aaron@checkhimout.ca to register as a volunteer chef.

New York: Under Construction Party
When I saw that Doppelganger was having an “Under Construction” party I thought it was a Kickstarter for Adam Dreaddy’s cosmetic rejuvenation, but no. This reconstruction party is actually for one of the hottest nights in town, as Dreaddy and his team prepare to move New York to its new venue in time for Pride. Berlin hosts with guest bartender Ryan Steele, DJs Dreaddy and Sollors, and dancers Dan Bevan and Bee Samoil-Selk. 10pm. Killjoy, 1120 Hamilton St. Tickets $15 at door before midnight, $20 after, or in advance at www.eventbrite.com. For more information check out the Facebook page.
Rent Check Presents High Class
If it weren’t for all my threadbare tighty whities — with far too many peek-a-boo holes that let things slip out at the most inappropriate times — this would be the perfect party for moi. High Class is an underwear party for low-class people, with an emphasis on debauchery and sex- and body-positivity. A night full of giveaways, scandals, free condoms, access to a naked body painting station, and musical guests Rambone & The Wet Reality. 10pm. The Hindenburg, 23 West Cordova St. Cover $5 in underwear attire, $10 without. Check out the Facebook page for more info.

Great Grandview Garage Sale
I have friends that religiously go to the swap meet every chance they get, not for the bargain of the day but to get laid by the “straight” guy wandering aimlessly like a lost puppy while his girlfriend rummages through baskets of chotchkies and racks of old (aka funky) clothes. Today’s garage sale could be the mother lode as this enormous, community-wide sale covers the entire Grandview Woodland neighbourhood, from Clark Drive to Nanaimo Street and Broadway to Burrard Inlet. Check out greatgrandview.ca for a map to point you to all the hot spots. Or, if you are a seller, sign up and the crowds — as well as my horny friends — will flock to your door. 10am-2pm. Grandview-Woodland.
Car Free Day
If you’re like me every day is Car Free Day because I don’t make enough to own a car, pay the insurance, parking fees, permits, gas and so on. But today is a different story. Today you can experience a part of the West End without the constant roar of engines, fumes of carbon dioxide and that irritating back-up beep. Now in its eighth consecutive year, Car Free Day invites West Enders to Denman Street to celebrate our beautiful community and the things we love about it. There will be artists, vendors, food stands and fun activities for the kids. 12-6pm. Denman St. carfreevancouver.org

Make Music Vancouver 2015
Aside from cruising the fresh meat right off the latest cruise ship, I rarely head towards Gastown. But today might be worth the trip. Make Music Vancouver is bringing more than 100 musicians of all genres to play live in the streets. On a dance floor of 20,000 hot sweaty bodies in the sun, yours truly should be able to find romance, even for just one song. Invite your friends and join the free party. 5-10pm. Water St, Gastown. Check out the Facebook page for more info.

Throne And Games
Okay, so Game of Thrones has ended for another season and yes, Jon Snow is dead, but you can still have your fill of man flesh and skimpy medieval wear at one of the funniest nights of comedy in town. Three improv families vie for the empty Iron Throne every Thursday, Friday and Saturday until August 1. 7:30pm. The Improv Centre, 1502 Duranleau St, Granville Isl. Tickets $17 and info at vtsl.com.
