How a Canadian kids’ book became the centre of a U.S. Supreme Court case

“Pride Puppy” was written to highlight the joy of Pride. It became a political flashpoint

When Robin Stevenson and Julie McLaughlin published their picture book Pride Puppy in 2021, they had no idea it would one day become the subject of a U.S. Supreme Court case targeting school library book inclusion. Here, cartoonist Audra McNamee interviews Stevenson and McLaughlin about that experience and how they used it to inspire a national anti-censorship effort here in Canada. This comic is part of Comics Against Censorship, a five-part series of original comics tackling the history, impact and fight against LGBTQ2S+ censorship. Read the full series here.
