Toronto artist Vivek Shraya wins Steinert & Ferreiro Award

Toronto multimedia artist Vivek Shraya has won the Steinert & Ferreiro Award for community leadership. The recipient receives $10,000 and a commemorative award for his contribution to the LGBT community.

Shraya is currently on tour promoting his novel She of the Mountains and has released new music for the holidays, All of the Lights: A Diwali/Christmas EP, available for free download.

According to the Community One Foundation website, the Steinert & Ferreiro Award was “launched through a bequest from the Estates of Jonathan R Steinert and Fernando Gumercindo Ferreiro in 2005, the award is Canada’s premiere recognition of leadership in the LGBTQ community. Community contribution and leadership are at the heart of the LGBTQ community with leaders often working quietly to achieve growth, understanding and change.”
