The most fabulous cars on the road are in Indiana, thanks to the Indiana Youth Group, a gay, lesbian and trangender group for youth ages 12 to 21. The state’s Bureau of Motor Vehicles initially turned them down, because they felt the plates wouldn’t have statewide appeal. The youth group sued the BMV in 2010, saying the bureau’s refusal of the application was arbitrary and unconstitutional.

The licence plates cost $40, and $25 goes to the youth group. Program director Mary Byrne said in an interview with Indianapolis Star, “All the money will go directly for services to these young people. It’s an incredible way for people to show their pride in who they are.”
