Greek parliament voted to legalize same-sex marriage in a landmark bill on Thursday, becoming the first majority Christian Orthodox country codify marriage equality. The law also granted adoption rights to same sex couples.
And what makes this event even more enjoyable is that lesbians can now get married where the word “lesbian” originated. The Greek Island of Lesbos is known for being the birthplace of Sappho, a Greek poet who was known for her prolific lyrical poetry often featuring descriptions of beautiful women.
