👉As more courses move online during COVID-19, many Canadian students are being deadnamed by their post-secondary institutions. Writer Marsha McLeod surveyed 50 universities and colleges across the country to understand why the issue keeps emerging—and finds that correcting the issue often requires trans and non-binary students to jump through hoops.

QUEER NEWS AROUND THE WORLD 🌎

👉U.S. president-elect Joe Biden has made his first LGBTQ2S+ appointment: Carlos Elizondo will be the first Latinx person and second gay man to serve as White House Social Secretary. Plus, a new independent report finds rampant issues of homophobia, sexism and racism within the Royal Canadian Mounted Police service.

👉Who asked for this? America’s queen of fracking, RuPaul, is going full capitalism this Christmas. The drag icon and host of RuPaul’s Drag Race signed a deal with Old Navy for a four-part holiday series, RuPaul-idays. And Mike Tyson said trans rights: On a recent episode of his podcast, Hotboxin’ With Mike Tyson, the former boxer came to the defence of Dwyane Wade’s 13-year-old daughter, who identifies as trans, after his guest, rapper Boosie Badazz, stated he was “offended because it’s a child.”

All these stories and much more in this week’s Xtra Weekly.
