The COMO Shambhala may be the only spa in the world where you will not be pampered.
That’s according to Thomas Orchard, the regional general manager of two of the COMO hotel chain’s properties in London.
“We do not do pamper spa,” Orchard says, instead noting that the Shambhala spas are places where guests can take care of “mind, spirit and body.”
Designed by Christina Ong, owner of the nine COMO hotels and resorts (the name is derived from the initials of Ong and her daughter Melissa) — with locations in exotic spots such as Bali, Bhutan and Turks and Caicos — Shambhala bills its spas as “sanctuaries” where guests can retreat to stop smoking, detox, lose weight or enjoy a health retreat.
Ong is currently preparing to open three new COMO hotels, including a 74-room boutique hotel in a historic 1930s building in Miami’s Art Deco neighbourhood later this year.
General manager Javier Beneyto tells Daily Xtra Travel that although the property is in the lively Miami Beach area, it is “away from all the bars and noise of Ocean Drive.”
In keeping with COMO’s philosophy of providing a holistic wellness experience, the Metropolitan in Miami will include a yoga pavilion and a hydrotherapy pool on the roof.
COMO is also opening two other properties this fall: a 106-room resort in Phuket, Thailand, and a luxury hotel in the Maldives.
