Russell Tovey apologizes for “prance around” comment
Gay British actor Russell Tovey has apologized for an interview in the Observer that some readers say insulted effeminate gay men. He said “I feel like I could have been really effeminate, if I hadn’t gone to the school I went to. Where I felt like I had to toughen up. If I’d have been able to relax, prance around, sing in the street, I might be a different person now. I thank my dad for that, for not allowing me to go down that path. A Nigerian woman fleeing imprisonment for her LGBT activism at home is facing resistance to her UK refugee claim because she has children. A lawyer for the Home Secretary said Aderonke Apata was “not part of the social group known as lesbians” but had simply “indulged in same-sex activity.” He also said, “You can’t be a heterosexual one day and a lesbian the next day. Just as you can’t change your race.”
