BC’s queer resource centre is seeking volunteers to join its new community advisory committee to help decide which direct services to prioritize and maintain.
“We have limited resources and we need to focus on where to prioritize those resources within the community,” says Dara Parker, Qmunity’s executive director.
While Qmunity’s core services, for youth and seniors for example, will remain, Parker says the organization is making an effort to streamline its spending and fund only programs and events that are of greatest interest to the community. Questions such as funding community barbecues versus Pride dances will be up for discussion and determined through research conducted by volunteers in the new Qmunity program advisory committee (QPAC).
While the organization’s governance board will continue to oversee Qmunity’s broader vision, Parker says, its new advisory committee will be tasked with an “ears to the ground” approach to determine specific programming priorities.
Parker says there isn’t a “hard deadline” for QPAC nominations. She says the organization has already received interest since posting the call for volunteers on its website and its board of directors plans to meet in June to consider applications.
