After less than one year on the job, Pink Triangle Services (PTS) dismissed its executive director, Maura Volante.
Volante was hired by the PTS board in January as the community-based queer service organization’s first executive director.
According to board chair Keith Duncanson, the decision to let Volante go was “made effective on Nov 1.”
Duncanson declined to comment on the specific details surrounding Volante’s dismissal, but confirmed that it “was not a financial decision.”
“What I can say is that Maura is no longer with PTS and it was not a good fit,” says Duncanson.
Volante, when contacted by Capital Xtra, declined to comment on her dismissal.
Duncanson says that while “the posting for the executive director position has [already] been put out through different media channels,” the board has yet to set a timetable for when they hope to have a new executive director in place.
Recently hired office administrator Libby Boudreau will continue to assist in the day-to-day running of the organization.
“Libby is still employed with PTS,” says Duncanson.
Duncanson says he is hopeful that, while this may be a temporary setback for the board and the organization as a whole, in the long run, it will prove to be “a learning experience” that will help PTS expand and improve its service delivery organization.
