A bright light has gone out in the lesbian community following the sudden tragic death of Carole “Hannah” Larouche, 45, in a train accident in Cornwall on April 19.
An experienced employee of CN Rail, Carole was accidentally hit from behind by an oncoming train while working on the tracks near Cornwall. An investigation is ongoing regarding the circumstances that led to the tragic event.
Originally from Sudbury and most recently a resident of Cornwall, Carole lived in Ottawa for many years where she became a vibrant fixture of this city’s gay and lesbian community and a friend to all who crossed her path.
Throughout the weekend following her death, friends from across Eastern Ontario gathered in Ottawa or sent messages from as far away as Victoria and Nicaragua to remember Carole and celebrate her life as a uniquely warm, kind and fun-loving person.
Carole is survived by her long-term partner, Shawna Spowart.
A friend to many, loved by all.
