A Pride Toronto arbitrator is reviewing complaints about a men’s rights group plan to march in the 2015 Pride Parade.
After Daily Xtra broke the news May 27 that the Canadian Association for Equality (CAFE) is included on the list of groups marching this year, several calls were immediately sent out on social media asking people to write to Pride Toronto to remove the group from the parade.
Pride Toronto’s executive director Mathieu Chantelois told Daily Xtra in an email that they have received numerous complaints since May 27.
“As we take these complaints very seriously, our dispute resolution process . . . has now been activated to look into this matter thoroughly and promptly,” he writes, adding that Pride would not comment further until the arbitrator reached their decision.
“The board and the staff are confident in our dispute resolution process, and, as an organization, we are committed to remain fair while treating everyone with respect,” Chantelois adds.
CAFE’s executive director Justin Trottier told Daily Xtra that his group would be happy to respond to any specific concerns people may have.
