If you’ve followed the USA’s gay rights movement for any length of time, chances are you’ve heard of the National Organization for Marriage. They’re the delightful people who tried to push back the gay rights’ movement by driving a wedge between the gay and black communities. Just the best kind of people they are.
Well, during their little campaign to delay the inevitability of marriage equality in the States, NOM might have kinda sorta fudged a few facts. I know, I’m as amazed as you are here. The group known for trying to push antiquated world views might not have the best relationship with honesty? Gadzooks, indeed.
According to The Huffington Post, while NOM was fighting to ban gay marriage in Maine, they neglected to disclose their list of donors for their campaigning. Turns out, that’s not entirely on the level, and now they’ve just been hit with more than $50,000 in fines, and they’re being forced to turn in the list of donors.
The Maine Commission on Governmental Ethics and Election Practices explained their decision in a recent report: “Maine people deserve to know who is funding political campaigns to influence their vote.” Because if you’re going to spend money trying to strip someone of a basic human right to express their love for someone, you should at least sign your name to it.
But really, guys, this isn’t healthy for you. You’re being hateful, narrow-minded individuals, and hiding in the shadows about it isn’t good for you. You should be out in the open about who you are! You should be, what’s that word again, boastful? Either way, go out there and tell the world that you’re straight, you’re great, and your identity revolves around an antiquated belief system that is slowly dying out in the modern world.
