Mexico City mayor presides over mass gay wedding

'Those unions are strong': Ángel Mancera

The mayor of Mexico City, Miguel Ángel Mancera, presided over the marriage of 26 same-sex couples in a mass wedding today, July 15.

“In this year alone, we have had more than 363 same-sex marriages, and that is a very important fact,” Mancera told Spanish-language newspaper Vanguardia.

“We have only registered divorces in two percent of those unions, and that is a good fact because it shows that those unions are strong, solid.”

Gay marriage has been legal in the federal district of Mexico City since 2010.

Mancera says the city has since performed 2,513 gay marriages.
