Drug users are leaving their dirty needles in cubicles at St Marc’s Spa, and management doesn’t know what to do with the abandoned works.
St Marc’s manager Daniel Viard says that when he took over two weeks ago, he contacted the AIDS Committee Of Toronto in an effort to acquire sanitary biohazard containers in which to dispose of the dirty needles.
He says ACT promised to help, but then never called back.
“In the meantime,” he asks, “maybe you can tell me where I can find a box for needles – used needles.”
Viard was referred to the city’s health department, then asked how St Marc’s staffers are currently getting rid of dirty sticks.
“We take a piece of cardboard,” he says, “and we tape it, we roll it, and we put it in the garbage.”
