Original approved May 19: The board further recognizes that we must uphold the protections entrenched in the Ontario Human Rights Code, the Constitution Act of 1867 and confirmed in the Canadian Act of 1982.
As a Catholic school system, the board and its staff are committed to the elimination of discrimination as outlined in Ontario’s equity and inclusive education strategy and the Ontario Ministry of Education policy/Program Memorandum No 119 (2009) in a manner which [sic] is consistent with the board’s denominational rights under sections 93 of the Constitution Act of 1867 as recognized in section 19 of the Ontario Human Rights Code.
Amendment proposed: The board and its staff are committed to the elimination of discrimination as outlined in Ontario’s equity and inclusive education strategy and the Ontario Ministry of Education Policy/Program Memorandum No 119 (2009), and to the protection of the rights described in sections 19 of the Ontario Human Rights Code, in a manner which [sic] is consistent with the exercise of the board’s denominational rights as described in section 93 of the Constitution Act of 1867. Where there is legal conflict between human rights protections and the protection of denominational rights, the considerations dictated by the denominational rights take precedence.

New proposal based on staff recommendation: Catechism definition – The Catechism of the Catholic Church, in its most current edition, promulgated by the Holy See is an authoritative statement of the Church’s faith of the faith and Catholic doctrine.

Original approved May 19: The board is committed to implementing an inclusive curriculum based on Catholic values and to reviewing resources, instruction, assessment and evaluation practices in order to identify and address discriminatory biases so that students may maximize their learning potential in such a way that affirms their full identity as children of God.
