Church and Wellesley convenience store owner assaulted

Toronto police have confirmed that the owner of Wellesley Convenience was assaulted on June 3, 2016, at 10:30pm.

Detective Sergeant Shawn Getty of the Toronto Police Service’s hold up squad says a “scuffle” ensued between an assailant and the victim, leaving the store owner with a loose tooth and bruising.

Community rumours and media reports said the man was stabbed in the face. “That did not occur to my knowledge,” Getty tells Daily Xtra. He described the injuries sustained as non life threatening.

Toronto police spokesperson David Hopkins says the alleged perpetrator is a black male, six feet tall with an athletic build, wearing a dark hoodie with the hood up at the time of the assault and is believed to be in his early-20s.
