Christians are not immune to porno

Every so often, this intrepid reporter is lured deep within the belly of the beast, so to speak, and such journeys are not without their reward.

In the case of my recent trek into the heart of US Christian nonprofit anti-gay groups, I came across the website of Focus on the Family. This group has a stated goal of “Helping Families Thrive” yet spends a lot of time advocating against gay rights and women’s rights in the US and Canada. Big chunks of the website are devoted to sex, and these make the best bits of unintentional comedy.

Take this section on the dangers of pornography, which I’ll quote verbatim:

“Christians aren’t immune. When surveyed, 53 percent of men who attended Promise Keeper said they viewed pornography that week. More than 45 percent of Christians admit that pornography is a major problem in their home. An anonymous survey conducted recently by pastors.com reported that 54 percent of pastors admitted viewing porn within the last year. In an online newsletter, 34 percent of female readers of Today’s Christian Woman admitted to intentionally accessing internet porn. One out of every six women who read Today’s Christian Woman says they struggle with addiction to pornography.”

Focus takes this as evidence that porn needs to be combated rather than accepted as a normal part of a healthy sex life. Given that their own research indicates that a majority of Christian pastors admits to consuming porn, this is bizarre. On the other hand, maybe a pastor isn’t the right person to model a healthy sex life after.

For more hilarity, read about the five stages of porn addiction or the pernicious lies spread by porn.

All the porn lies Focus identifies are essentially about the objectification of women, which logically must mean that gay porn is okay, right? Or at least more honest?

Of course, The Onion has already exposed the most vicious lie spread by pornography:
