The Centre is calling on members of the queer community to sign up for a series of long-awaited focus groups as part of its feasibility study on the need for a new queer community centre building.
In an Oct 5 press release, The Centre announced the first of two community meetings, scheduled for Nov 2 at 7 pm at Gordon Neighbourhood House at 1019 Broughton St in Vancouver.
Additionally, several focus groups targeting specific segments of the queer community are set to begin as early as Oct 12 with a lesbians-only meeting.
There’s also a group for the queer business community Oct 13; an arts, sports and cultural group on Oct 16; and a group for queer youth Oct 25. Check Xtra West’s Out in the City listings on page 36 for more details.
To register for any of the groups, call The Centre at 604.684.5307 or e-mail executiveassistant@lgtbcentrevancouver.com.
The Centre is also planning a way to contribute online, but details were not yet available at press time.
The Centre’s current digs at the corner of Bute and Davie Sts are dilapidated, unsuitable for The Centre’s needs and accessible only via a steep and narrow staircase.
The feasibility study is financed in part by a $35,000 grant from the City of Vancouver.
