Bert and Ernie come out in celebration of DOMA repeal

Sesame Street’s favourite duo, Bert and Ernie, who have become unlikely gay idols, are shown in a moment of intimacy on the cover of The New Yorker’s marriage equality issue. The illustration, called “Moment of Joy,” was drawn by Jack Hunter and was chosen as the magazine’s cover after being submitted to their Tumblr last year.

“It’s amazing to witness how attitudes on gay rights have evolved in my lifetime,” Hunter says. “This is great for our kids, a moment we can all celebrate.”
