Currently, 70,000 British Columbians are living with Alzheimer’s disease or another form of dementia. Age is the greatest known risk factor for dementia — the risk doubles every five years after the age of 65. We know that there is a rising tide of dementia with our aging population, and there is hope if we act now. More research is needed to find the causes and cures for dementia. In the meantime, we need to ensure that families on the dementia journey have access to support.
The Alzheimer Society of BC is the only provincewide organization providing support, information and education to families affected by dementia, through a network of 19 resource centres across the province, as well as online resources. The need for support is growing, and the time for a cure is now.
By participating in the Investors Group Walk for Memories and supporting the Alzheimer Society of BC, contributors help ensure that families affected by dementia are not alone.
Xtra is a proud sponsor of the Alzheimer Society of BC — Walk for Memories event. The goal is to raise money and awareness, with walks happening at several locations across the province.
