VIDEO: Montreal Pride parade saved!

Queer community rallied to revive parade in eight weeks

Two months ago, the future of Montreal’s Pride parade looked uncertain. Divers/Cité — the group that usually organizes the parade — decided to cancel the event and focus on a queer arts and culture festival instead.

But the Montreal queer community came together to rescue the parade. A small group of queer activists formed Célébrations LGBTA, a new community-driven, not-for-profit organization that took over responsibility for planning the parade.

More than 60,000 people turned out on Sun, Jul 29 to watch community groups, politicians, and even a few gay porn stars march down the streets of Montreal.

Divers/Cité, the city’s queer culture festival, will be held Wed, Aug 1 to Sun, Aug 5 (see diverscite.org for more information).
